The Waves · Sipora, Mentawai

This is
the Mentawai.

The Lineup

One of the last
places on Earth
that still feels like this.

Warm water. Consistent swell. Reef breaks of almost impossible quality. The Mentawai has been drawing surfers from every corner of the world for decades. It still feels like a secret.

From Kali Villas, you are in the middle of all of it. Some breaks, you walk to. All of them within reach.

Kali Villas sits on the orange bar. Bintang's Lefts and Rights are a short paddle south. Everything else is minutes by motorbike along the coast road.
Your Doorstep Break

Bintang's Left
is right there.

Visible from the bungalow. Walk out the front door, cross the sand, paddle out. No transfer. No planning. Just you and the wave.

A left-hander that works on any swell. On a good day, it's the kind of wave that makes you lose track of time entirely.

Consistent swell — peak season begins
Peak season (May – Sep)

Peak season (May – September) brings powerful, consistent swell and the Mentawai at its very best. Off-season is quieter, cleaner, and uncrowded. Either way, the island rewards.

Before You Paddle Out

Good to know.

01
It's a reef, not a beach break
These are reef breaks. Booties are recommended. Reef cuts heal slowly in the tropics — take care on entry and exit.
02
Bring a quiver
Conditions range from waist-high to well overhead. Bring a quiver that covers both. Fins, leashes and wax are hard to source on the island — come prepared.
03
Respect the locals
The Mentawai Islands have a local surf community. Respect in the water goes a long way. Share the peak, be patient, and you'll be welcome back.
04
Everything is close
Every break listed here is reachable by motorbike in under ten minutes. For more distant spots, we can help arrange a local charter.
